Cortisol: Testosterone ratio and homocysteine levels in patients with acute myocardial infarction

چکیده
Stressful experiences include major life events, trauma, and abuse and are sometimes related to the environment in the home, workplace, or neighborhood. Acute stress and chronic can both have long-term consequences. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate cortisol, total testosterone and total homocysteine (tHcy) status in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Thirty AMI patients were included and diagnosed based on clinical examination, laboratory investigations, electrocardiogram, angiography and other tests. The blood samples were analyzed for cortisol, total testosterone and tHcy. Significantly increased levels of serum cortisol and tHcy, and decreased level of total testosterone were noticed in the patients group as compared to control subjects. Whereas, we found positive and significant correlation between cortisol : testosterone (C/T) ratio and tHcy, and mean blood pressure in AMI patients. This study suggests that, some methods require which reduces the C/T ratio and homocysteine levels may reduce the risk of AMI.

Recent studies have documented the importance of lipids and lipoproteins as determinants of serum total homocysteine concentrations in persons with myocardial infarction, and in healthy subjects. Associations between various biological systems and total homocysteine have also been reported. However, some of these associations are poorly understood. The purpose of our study was to measure serum ...

Abstract Introduction: methionine. Many reports confirm the correlation between hyper homocysteinemia and cardiovascular disease. This study was aimed at determining the effect of B12 and folate deficiency on the homocysteine level after myocardial infarction. Homocysteine is produced by demethylation of Materials and methods: study were patients with myocardial infarcti...

According to studies, a significant association exists between the low levels of vitamin D and cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction (MI). In a prospective, case control study, 88 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) including ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and Non-STEMI were enrolled. The plasma level of 25-hydroxy vitamin D[25(OH)D] was obtained at the time ...
